Terms & Conditions

Registration: A non-refundable fee of $25.00 per student or $45.00 per family is required at time of registration. Registration fees remain valid for a period of one (1) year from the date of the student’s, or family’s, last lesson(s); i.e. students returning within one (1) year of withdrawal will not be required to repay a registration fee.

Deposit: A two week deposit for each time slot is required at the time of registration. Deposit will be applied to the last two weeks lessons taken, if and when a signed Withdrawal Form is completed and turned in to the front desk, at least 14 days prior to the date of the final lesson. Withdrawal with less than two (2) weeks notice results in forfeiture of all or part of the deposit. Lessons held by deposit may not be rescheduled or cancelled. Deposits are non-refundable, i.e. they must be used or forfeited. Deposits may only be used for active school days and may not be used during school closings.

Payments: Tuition is paid by automatic bank account debit or credit card charge on the first day of each month, for that month. Deposit will hold only the first two weeks of any month for which an automatic charge is declined by the issuing bank. Cash, check, credit card or bank debit payments are not accepted for in-person payment on a monthly basis. Payment must be made by pre-authorized automatic monthly payment. Excel Music is hereby authorized to charge an NSF fee of $25.00 in the event of insufficient funds at the time of automatic bank account debit.

Recital Fees: Recital fees for participating students will be charged to your auto-debit or auto-credit card on December 1 and June 1.

Withdrawals: Fourteen (14) days written notice prior to the date of the final lesson is required for withdrawal from lessons. Lesson days and times are reserved for each student and therefore two (2) weeks notice is additionally required for a reduction in lesson time; i.e. changing from a 60- to a 30-minute lesson, or requesting a change of instructor. Withdrawal from lessons must be made in person at the school office and cannot be made by telephone, fax, letter or e-mail. Withdrawal must be done at the school office and not with the teacher. To withdraw from classes a parent, legal guardian or adult student must:

1) Inform school administration in person, and

2) Complete and sign a Withdrawal Form provided by the school office.

All automatic bank debiting or credit card charges will stop after acknowledgement of the final lesson day by the school. Excel Music reserves the right to terminate lessons to any student without notice. In such a case a refund for unused lessons will be given.

Refunds: Registration fees and deposits are non-refundable. A 10% processing fee is applied to all refunds of pre-paid account balances.

Student Absences: No refunds or credits are given for missed lessons. 24 hours advance notice prior to lesson start time is required to request a make-up lesson. Make-up lessons are provided as a courtesy, are subject to availability and are not guaranteed. Make-up lessons must be scheduled through the school office, be taught by the regular instructor, occur within fourteen (14) days of notification, and must be scheduled at the time of notification. If a message is left requesting a make-up lesson, the call will be returned, but you must speak directly to a representative on the day of notification (or Monday if the message is received Sunday), prior to the start time of the regular lesson, and schedule a make-up at that time. Failure to speak directly to a representative or inability to find or confirm a suitable make-up time slot will not result in a refund or credit. Once a make-up lesson has been scheduled it cannot be moved for any reason. Make-up lessons must be scheduled by a parent, legal guardian or an adult student. Students and/or their guardians are responsible for remembering make-up lesson days and times—reminder notices are not provided. Make-up lessons cannot be scheduled for group lessons or special classes. Students will be allowed two (2) same-day (less than 24 hour notice, but BEFORE the lesson) make-ups per year for illness. A make-up lesson must be scheduled at the time of notification of illness. All absences—including illness—must be made-up by way of the terms listed above, or tuition for that lesson is forfeited; i.e. absences and/or make-ups cannot be converted into refunds or credits.

Substitutions: The school reserves the right to provide a substitute or new teacher if the regularly scheduled teacher is ill or otherwise unable to teach classes. If a substitute or new teacher cannot be provided, students receive a make-up or credit for missed lessons. No refund or credit is given for refusal to take lessons with a substitute or new teacher.

Instruments & Study Materials: Students must bring a fully functioning instrument (except amplifiers, drums & pianos) and their study materials for each lesson. Excel Music and its instructors cannot loan instruments, books or other items to students for lessons.

Weather Closings: If the school must cancel classes due to extreme weather or events beyond our control such as power outages, the missed lessons will be added on to the end of the teaching year. No refunds for lessons missed due to these reasons will be given.

Parent’s Responsibility to be Aware of Dates and Events: It is the responsibility of the parent or adult student to be aware of all school activities, such as recitals, extra classes, and dates the school is open or closed. The parents will give the school their email address to email such notices home. The school will post all such notices on the table in the lobby or the bulletin board. It is the parent’s responsibility to regularly check their email and these locations to ensure they are informed. It is the responsibility of the parents or adult students to inform the school of any email address change, address change or telephone number change.

Guests: Please understand that parents and/or children accompanying students to their lessons must remain in the waiting area. Parents, only, may observe lessons with teacher permission. Children may not observe classes or lessons.

Photo Release: The school is hereby granted permission to take photographs and video of the students to use in brochures, web sites, posters, advertisements and other promotional materials the school creates. Permission is also hereby granted for the school to copyright such photographs in its name.

Updates: Terms and Conditions are subject to change without notice. All students are bound by the most current Terms & Conditions. Students may opt out of updated Terms and Conditions by withdrawing from lessons as mandated by the most recent, prior Terms and Conditions in effect. Current versions are posted on the board across from the reception desk. A copy of the most current version is always available upon request.
